To get your message across, you need a little flair and a grasp of style that matches your words. I offer literary and creative translations from German and French to English and am here to help bring websites, marketing materials and press releases etc into English. My specialist fields include:

- politics
- art
Creative:
- journalism
- food/cooking
- travel/tourism
- art and crafts
NB: I do not work in areas such as law, technical translation or medicine which are outside my area of expertise.
Proofreading, Copyediting and Revision
Whether your text just needs a second pair of eyes to spot inconsistencies or mistakes, or a major stylistic overhaul, I can provide proofreading and copyediting services. Past clients include publishers, fellow translators and academics for whom English is not their first language.
Recent projects include proofreading Ariadne’s Thread by Philippa Comber (Propolis Books).
I can thoroughly recommend Rachel as a proofreader. She was meticulous and fast as well as providing clear, easy to understand notes and feedback – I will certainly use her again! – Henry Layte, Propolis Books
Translation Workshops
I have recently graduated from the Translators in Schools programme run by the Stephen Spender Trust and am very excited to be able to offer tailored translation workshops, initially to primary schools in the Norfolk/Suffolk area.
The workshop exceeded my expectations and was a wonderfully different experience for the children. It was great for them to be given the opportunity to think in different ways about language and the freedom to respond to the text in a variety of ways. There was something for all learners and it made the concept of translation really clear and accessible. – Year 6 teacher
Reviews and Reports
Do you have a book that you can’t read because it is French or German? Or do you need a review of something that you have written? Are you a publisher with a fantastic French or German submission but no time to read it yourself?
Let me do the reading for you! I have frequently reviewed for New Books in German and will provide honest and detailed reviews or reader reports of French/German books, translations etc. I also run a blog, A Discount Ticket to Everywhere, which features regular reviews of children’s literature and translated fiction.
Rates
Each project is different so pricing will depend on the nature and complexity of the text, the timescale and the amount of research required.
Literary translation projects are priced per thousand words of the English-language text while shorter texts may be charged at a flat rate. Information on literary translation rates is provided by the Society of Authors.
Reports and reviews are generally written for a fixed fee, while proofreading and editing carry an hourly charge. Further information is available on request.
I will be happy to provide a firm quote on the basis of the work to be carried out, whether translation, reader’s reports or proof-reading, on confirmation of your requirements.
